Of Real Worlds
Exhibitions, music, poetry and projections celebrating the 200th anniversary of Emily Bronte's birth. An exploration of her connections with landscape, and environment where she was born.
Hillstart
South Square Centre is committed to supporting emerging artists and curators. I am grateful for the opportunity that I had in 2015 to have my first solo show there 'You Lived Here Mrs Pool(e)'. It taught me a lot about developing my work and curating an exhibition. On the strength of it, I am now undertaking an MA at Bradford School of Art and am now exhibiting here in Hillstart with some of the other undergraduate and postgraduate students.

The whole arts trail is always an inspiring and creative, fun and friendly weekend. There's such variety that if you can't find something here that you like then you just aren't looking!
You'll find us in the Exhibition Building of Shipley College. Free entry.
You Lived Here Mrs Pool(e)
Finding the name 'Mrs Poole' mentioned in an old legal document relating to her house made Jenny Zigzag curious about this woman who lived in her home 100 years ago. Through this work Jenny explores the marks we make and the things we leave behind.
Under The Bed Sale
Cupola Gallery's annual Under The Bed Sale is on! Work from over 100 artists, including Jenny Zigzag, is there to be snapped up. We've all had a bit of a clear out to provide you with some arty bargains!

To Please a Few
When Karen Sherwood set up Cupola Gallery 25 years ago, she apparently wrote 'We show the work the artists want to make, not necessarily, the work they think they can sell'. This years' Christmas show 'To Please a Few' reflects her continuing support and promotion of artists.
The gallery is always full of inspiring work; something to intrigue and excite everyone. The invitation to submit work for this show said "Show us what you've got! We want everything from paintings, ceramics, glass, sculpture & photography to bags, textiles, badges, jewellery and things I could never even imagine."
Having said that, Cupola do not just take anything, there is always a really high standard; so needless to say I'm really excited to be exhibiting with them for the first time in this show.
1 in 4
I am pleased to have a piece of work in this exhibition. Most of us have, in one way or another, experienced mental health issues and art is a really creative way of exploring and expressing feelings and experiences.
In the run up to World Mental Health Day, 10 October, Bradford District Care NHS are holding a major art exhibition – the 1in4 art exhibition - with the support of, and in, Salts MIll, Saltaire.
The exhibition will be showcasing innovative and thought-provoking artwork created by people who have experience of mental health problems. Digital artwork will also be featured by Roy Lilley, artist, health writer and broadcaster and Terri Porrett, artist and health professional who will showcase powerful photographs inspired by mental health.
The exhibition will aim to reduce the stigma surrounding mental illness and encourage people to talk openly about issues that can affect us all. It will feature art work from people with experience of mental health and a film featuring people sharing their own personal stories of mental health will also be showcased during the exhibition.
You Lived Here Mrs Pool(e)
I'm looking forward to showing this exhibition in Shipley, the town where Mrs Pool(e) spent her life. She lived in my house a hundred years ago. Old legal documents name her in passing when her landlord died and the house passed on to his daughters. Much has changed. Houses and streets have gone. The library where I am exhibiting this work did not exist during her lifetime. Still, there are traces around us of the lives gone by.
Opening times: Mon - Fri 09:00 - 19:00, Sat 09:00 - 17:00
Platform Open Annual Art Exhibition 2016
I'm really pleased to be exhibiting 'Our Neighbourhood' in Harrogate this weekend in what promises to be exciting show.
Platform Open Art Exhibition 2016 is showcasing 62 emerging and established contemporary artists from across the UK.
The three day exhibition aims to provide a springboard for artists to exhibit a visual landscape of painting, drawing, photography, film, sculpture, printmaking, ceramics and installation. The public will have the opportunity to experience, engage and obtain unique pieces at affordable prices whilst raising money for the children's charity NSPCC. (A commission of 30% is taken from individual artworks sold at the exhibition and donated to the NSPCC for their important services and campaigns).
Featured British artist Everton Wright (EVEWRIGHT) will be screening: Walking Drawings Across the Estuaries. Directed by Evewright (2012) this unique and evocative art installation 'Walking Drawing Artworks' has a participatory approach and explores mark making on a immense scale using people (and Cumbrian Heavy Horses) as the 'pencils' writing their stories into the Earth. These works were located in the British Isles reinterpreting remotely found landscapes and spaces. Film 1 Heavy Horses 19m.15 and Film 2 Coloured People 22m.50 can be viewed together with a series of limited edition large format prints.

It promises to be a great weekend in a fabulous location!

You Lived Here Mrs Pool(e)
I cordially invite you to the preview of my first solo show.
Preview: Friday 6 November 7-9pm
Exhibition: 7 Nov - 20 Dec
Gallery open Tues - Sun 12-3pm. Other times may be possible by prior arrangement with the gallery (01274 834747)
Mrs Poole lived in my house a hundred years ago. When her landlord died the house was ..."in the occupancy of Mrs Poole". Three years later it was ..."formerly in the occupancy of Mrs Poole and now unoccupied". There is no first name, no occupation, no husband or family.
On an earlier electoral roll her name is spelt without an 'e' although it is almost certainly the same person. Even the spelling of our names get lost in time.
She lived in a rapidly growing, thriving town. Vestiges of ironwork left in stone suggest what once existed; whilst the meaning of mysterious marks carved into kerb stones has been forgotten.
In this exhibition of recent work I investigate memory, loss, the marks we make and the things we leave behind.
