Mrs Poole lived in my house a hundred years ago. When her landlord died the house was ..."in the occupancy of Mrs Poole". Three years later it was ..."formerly in the occupancy of Mrs Poole and now unoccupied". There is no first name, no occupation, no husband or family.
On an earlier electoral roll her name is spelt without an 'e' although it is almost certainly the same person. Even the spelling of our names get lost in time.
She lived in a rapidly growing, thriving town. Vestiges of ironwork left in stone suggest what once existed; whilst the meaning of mysterious marks carved into kerb stones has been forgotten.
In this exhibition of recent work I investigate memory, loss, the marks we make and the things we leave behind.
