Marks and Traces
To be human is to leave traces, some deliberate, others accidental. Even whilst still visible, their meaning or purpose is often forgotten.
As I work at making and weathering away marks, crossing out, covering up and taking fragments, the original images gradually deteriorate, becoming feint traces of what they once were. In the process they become part of something new, something different in the cycle of growth and decay.
I have an experimental approach to making art, starting with an idea and exploring it via materials and processes, not always knowing what or where the end result will be.
